INTACT Journal Entry 1: Golden Circle

I think I’ve always been a very goal-oriented person, after coming back home from my first day of kindergarten, my mom says my very first words to her were I want to be a fairy. It feels strange, not that I didn’t become a fairy of course, because that would have been amazing, that even until now I’ve had a clear cut vision and imagination of what I wanted and who I wanted to be.

I do not mean to sound braggadocios of any sort, but I always knew that I wanted to study something like Comtech, in a university like Ateneo, unlike a lot of the confusion and conflict that some people experience when trying to choose both a college and a course. I’ve always had these notions of not liking Medicine, Engineering, and an almost inherent inclination towards Humanities. So when my older brother introduced to me that he had a friend taking up Comtech, even when I was Grade 5, I thought the course’s flexibility, diversity, and Ateneo’s atmosphere as a whole was where I would fit in best compared to other options, and I’m really glad that I followed through with that gut feeling.

So when the school year rolled around, after 6 months of complete stagnant behaviour, I was forced to remember and therefore act out all the study habits that I had long left in Senior High. I would say that I’m a pretty diligent student, I like to do things the moment I receive them, and this is a great characteristic for time management, but this also gives me a lot of anxiety and time to worry. I think my adjustment, just because the entire year is online, is for me to learn the balance between managing that anxiety while also continuing my punctual behaviour. I think that can also relate to one of my talents, which is planning! I love journalling, writing down stuff, creating my own expression of art through my journal, and it really relaxes me. I think its important to have that space to let out all my creative and stress juices—and I’d love to further develop my expression to let out my creativity more. I also love to write, and its been a longtime habit of mine to be outspoken and opinionated on numerous ideas, so I think thats also one of my habits that I think can help me in furthering my own self as a person.

Now that I am finally in college, I have a few more goals to accomplish, namely achieving good grades, doing my best, and overall maintaining good mental and emotional health! I think with school being online that comes with a lot of challenges, but with my own support system, I’m almost confident that I can do it! I think things that I do have to remember as a freshman is to take it slow and one requirement at a time because things can sometimes be overwhelming, but it’s my first try at this first year thing, if I could say that. Other than that, maintaining a positive attitude for what’s to come really helps, and I’m looking forward to all the things I’ll be learning and all the mistakes I’ll be making along the way to help me grow.
